Leigh Campbell, Beauty & Lifestyle Editor of Cosmopolitan magazine shows you how to recreate a head-to-toe red carpet look using this season’s latest products.
Flawless Face
Step 1. Prep the face to remove any existing makeup and create a clean base using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser.
Expert Tip: To make your base last longer go over it with a translucent powder. It’s particularly good for ladies with oily or combination skin as it’s sets the foundation.
Step 2. Gently dust a small amount of a powder blusher in a rosy colour to the apples of the cheeks and very lightly wash over the eyelids to give skin a fresh look.
The Kitty Flick
Step 3. Apply a black liquid liner along the lash line, either in feathering strokes or straight across – whichever works best for you! Start at the inside corner and move outwards but do not follow the lash line all the way to the outer corner, as this will give the illusion that the eyes are drooping down (aging the area dramatically.) Instead, when you get to your pupil, take the eyeliner straight out towards the end of the eye and when you are four or five lashes in from the outer corner, flick the line upwards slightly to create a sexy ‘cat eye’ effect.
Step 4. If your eyeliner is uneven on each eye, simply remove the line you like least with a cotton bud, place some concealer on the area and try again. Remember practice makes perfect!
Expert Tip: If you haven’t had a lot of practice creating a kitty flick, use a piece of sticky tape to guide you. Ensure you remove most of the adhesive by pressing on and off the back of your hand, then line up the tape in the direction and angle you want the flick to go and gently stick to the face. Make sure both sides are even before you apply the liner. Then draw liner on your skin, following the line of the tape, wait a minute or two to allow it the liner to dry then before removing the tape.
Finishing Touches
Step 5. Apply black mascara using a ‘zig zag’ motion, coating the top and underneath the lashes generously, root to tip. Be sure to apply a couple of coats of mascara to the top lashes and one coat on the bottom lashes too.
Step 6. Keep lips neutral so they don’t compete with the eyes. Apply a light pink or nude lipstick using a lip brush and finish with a touch of pink or clear gloss.
