Instant Makeover with Woman's Day

Mary Zavaglia, Beauty Editor for Woman’s Day, shows you how to update your look in a few easy steps. Learn to perfect a new season lavender eye and quick and easy up-do for your hair that’s perfect for work or weekend.

Base First

Step 1. Prep the face to remove any existing makeup and create a clean base using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser.

Step 2. Apply a primer followed by a foundation that suits your skin tone – blend using your fingers, sponge or a foundation brush.

Lavender Smokey Eye

Step 3. To create the new look lavender eye, use a trio of complimentary eye shadow colours to create a halo effect on the eye lid by creating depth at the centre of the eye that blends out until it disappears.

Step 4. Using a three toned purple eyeshadow palette, load your eyeshadow brush with the lightest colour and wash over the entire eyelid from lashes to the brow.

Step 5. Using the middle colour, gently brush into the eye socket and underneath the bottom lash line to give a hazy effect, being sure to stay close to the lashes.

Step 6. Apply a purple or lavender eyeliner to the inner rim of the eye just above the lower lash line to define the eyes and make them pop.

Expert Tip: If you don’t have a lavender eyeliner you can mix a non oily make-up remover with the darkest lavender eye colour and apply with a small brush on the inner rims of your lower eyelid.

Step 7. Using black mascara, coat the lashes in a ‘zig zag’ style, from top to bottom, root to tip.

Contrasting Colour

Step 8. Don’t stick to the same family of colour all over your face. Instead, create contrast by using a pinky blusher to complement the lavender eyes. Apply the blush using a flat brush to sweep over the apples of the cheeks.

Lips

Step 9. Compliment this look with a defined lip. Instead of going for a high shine glossy lip, define your lips with a light, subtle, creamy coral lipstick. Apply with a square brush, which ensures will last without overloading the lip.

False Lashes

Step 10. Apply false lashes by:

a. cutting them to size;

b. apply a small amount of adhesive or glue to the back of your hand;

c. gently run the edge of the lashes through the glue so it’s evenly spread all the way along; and

d. slide the lashes along your lashes to the base of the hairs to gently apply to your lids, getting as close to the lash line as possible.

Expert Tip: When applying false lashes, you want to get them right on top of the natural lashes. Start by placing holding the false lashes with tweezers and resting them on the natural lashes. Slowly and gently slide them down the natural hairs until they reach the skin just at the root of the lashes and gently press to stick them in place.

Step 11. If the false lashes have a dark line, you can apply eyeliner to disguise where you have placed the lashes.

Top Knot Hair Do

Step 12. Gather hair into a high ponytail. To add volume to a top knot hair style, use clip in hair extensions and wrap around the top of the ponytail.

Step 13. Tie the ends of the hair together with a thin elastic. Twist all hair into a messy top knot bun and wrap the ends around the base to disguise the extension clips.

Step 14. Secure with bobby pins and spray with hairspray to hold.
