Runway to Realway with Madison

Ever wanted to take the key runway looks and make them work for you? Stephanie Darling, Madison’s Living and Beauty Director, shares her quick and easy steps to take a look from Runway to Realway, including how to master the newest trend this summer – the bright coral lip.

Minimalist Makeup

Step 1. Prep the face to remove any existing makeup and create a clean base using a cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Toner neutralises the skin’s PH to the ultimate level of 5.5, which provides a perfect start for an even skin tone.

Step 2. Apply a primer followed by a foundation that suits your skin tone and type – using your fingers, sponge or a foundation brush to blend.

Step 3. You want the lip to be the focus of this look so keep eye make-up minimal. Using a taupe or very neutral eye colour, brush over the eyelid, taking the colour just over the orbital bone. Clean your brush then blend the colour at the crease and up towards the brow to create a wash effect. Be sure not to take the colour all the way to the eyebrow but just above the orbital bone.

Step 4. Using black mascara, coat the lashes in a ‘zig zag’ style, from top to bottom, root to tip.

Coral Lip

Step 5. Take a coral colour lipstick, and using a flat square edge brush, apply to the lip. A straight edge brush will ensure clean lines and lasting lip colour without the overload. You can use a subtle shade for the day and a brighter tangerine shade for the evening.

Expert Tip: Using a coral blush in the same colour as the lipstick, mix the blush with the lipstick and apply using the square brush to the lips. This ensures that the bold colour will last all day.

Step 6. Gently dab some of the coral lip colour onto the apples of the cheeks to give skin a glowing complexion.

Runway Hair

Step 7. To compliment and highlight the bold lip, tie the hair into a slick pony tail. Part the hair in the centre and apply mousse to flatten and slick back the hair. Run the mousse through the hair, and brush from root to mid-length down the hair.

Step 8. Using a rubber band without metal clips, tie the hair back into a low pony tail. The rubber band without metal clips ensures less damage to the hair.

Step 9. Finish off with a touch of hairspray for extra hold, and to flatten fly aways.
