Pink hair beauty road test
It's easy being pink with Great Lengths hair extensions.

The 30 Days of Fashion & Beauty team take the latest, greatest and most fabulous beauty trends out for a spin. This time around, we're road testing pink hair.

The candidate: Ana Almeida, Grazia's and CLEO's online producer

The mission, should you choose to accept it: To dive head first into the pastel hair trend sported by every cool girl worth their Louboutins. I admit that I am taking tiny baby steps by having some pale pink Great Lengths hair extensions put in. As if I needed anymore encouragement, it's all for a great cause – to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation via Great Length's Pink Hair to Show You Care campaign.

The case in favour: I've long style stalked the pastel coloured locks of Katy Perry, Amber Le Bon and Ferne Cotton but have been too afraid to whole heartedly jump in – there's all that initial bleaching and then there's the upkeep to keep your locks that ever-so-perfect shade of fairy floss pink which seems to fade all too quickly. Great Lengths hair extensions is all gain and no pain – 100% percent human hair whose colour always stays true. Application takes literally seconds – the bond is applied with 'cold fusion' ultrasonic vibrations so no need to worry about heat damage. This is the shortest time I have ever spent in the hairdresser's chair and I'm loving it – talk about instant hair gratification.

The case against: New hair extensions also means new shampoo – sulphate-free to be exact to help keep the bonds intact. Brushing every day and a silk pillowcase will also help keep them tangle free and looking silky and smooth. And if you're a lover of a high tight ponytail you'll have to rethink your hair style as this tugs on the binds and is not ideal. If you love to frolic in the ocean on a regular basis that is not really recommended as it can be super harsh on your hair, not to mention your extensions, but it's nothing rinsing with fresh water and slapping on a hair treatment won't fix.

The verdict: After having psyched myself up for the big change – the effect is actually rather subtle and I would advise getting a fair few hair extensions (10 at least) to really feel like you have done something majorly different. I would say to anyone wanting to get in on the pastel hair trend but is worried about the commitment – this is the perfect low-maintenance solution. Just remove them when the hair trend bandwagon moves on and it's like it never happened.
